Leonardo announces Bristow Group Inc. has signed an agreement to purchase six AW139 Intermediate twin-engine helicopters for the Second-Generation Search & Rescue Aviation ("UKSAR2G") program run by the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). Six AW139s will join the current fleet consisting of 9 AW189s which will be delivered between 2023 and 2024.Aircraft deliveries are anticipated to commence in 2023 and be completed by 2024. They will join an existing group of nine Aw189 Super Medium twin-engine SAR helicopters in the UKSAR2G program.
The latest AW139s will come with the most recent technology, enhancements to the product, and mission capabilities for the job, such as seven-ton MTOW (Maximum Take-Off Weight), Honeywell Primus Epic integrated avionics phase 8, and a sophisticated Synthetic Vision System (SVS) with improved 2D maps, and wireless data loading. This will provide even more capability in all weather conditions and mission efficiency. These AW139s will also come with the Limited Ice Protection System (LIPS) to provide even more capabilities in extreme weather conditions. The newly-built fleet of AW139 helicopters that will be used for UKSAR2G will also benefit from the UKSAR2G requirements will be benefited by the brand-new Leonardo-Bristow worldwide service program. The aircraft will also go through an integration of mission systems to be completed by Bristow in collaboration in conjunction with Nova Systems after their delivery. They will allow for a more extensive involvement from UK-based industries.

The Bristow fleet consisting of Leonardo helicopters will total around 100 units after the arrival of the additional six AW139s. The Bristow's Leonardo helicopters have achieved missions like offshore transport to support the energy sector, SAR, and emergency medical services across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Australasia.
With over 1,100 units currently in operation, more than 280 customers across around 90 countries, and more than 3.3 million hours of flight time since it was certified in 2004, the AW139 is also effective in emergency and rescue missions. Nearly 400 aircraft, including the parapublic, military, and civil operators, perform emergency and disaster relief missions around the world and have accumulated more than 900,000 hours of flying up to now.
