Airborne Laser Scanning with UAVs
In this white paper, Aeroscout provides the main elements that can produce the highest quality LIDAR point clouds recorded through the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). A variety of typical scenarios for missions are presented at the start. Common weaknesses associated with the UAV are described in detail, and ways to improve the quality of information are presented. Additionally, key aspects of two specific instances of power line scanners and forest scanning are discussed, and a checklist for testing the UAV to determine its LIDAR capabilities is given.
INTRODUCTION
LIDAR using UAV is now possible for approximately ten years ago. The reduction in the size of the components on one side and the advancements of carriers platforms (UAVs), on the other hand, allowed the use of these systems in various applications. Learn more about the strong connection between onboard sensors and the UAV itself, which could produce the best quality LIDAR point clouds in the best possible scenario.
