Orion
Artemis I will launch an uncrewed Orion spacecraft on the Space Launch System on a journey beyond the Moon. Artemis II will be next, sending a crew to the Moon before returning to Earth. Parallel to this, NASA and its industry partners will develop human lunar landers, which is the last part of the transportation system required for returning humans to the surface of the Moon. Artemis III will be an important milestone as well as the start of human beings living, learning in, and working on the Moon. A group of NASA, as well as industry and partners, will establish an unabated human and robot spacecraft on Moon to help meet the agency's research and exploration objectives. NASA's Space Launch System Space Launch System will launch the Orion spacecraft to transport the crew to the lunar orbiting Gateway, which will take astronauts across and back to the surface of the Moon. NASA, along with its partners, will enhance the Gateway's capabilities, making it longer possible to stay on the outpost orbiting.
The Artemis Base Camp, with a surface habitat and both pressurized and unpressurized rovers, will establish our first foothold on the lunar frontier for extended expeditions. Artemis astronauts will advance technological advancements while learning about their surroundings, the Earth, Moon, and our place within our solar system. Artemis Base Camp and the Gateway Gateway and Artemis Base Camp will support missions simulations in preparation for the next stage - the sending of astronauts to Mars.
